War and Peace

  The world may have changed, but human nature has not. There are still patterns and tendencies that can be observed and exploited. There are still strengths and weaknesses that can be assessed and exploited. There are still opportunities and threats that can be seized and avoided. The key is to be flexible and creative, to use deception and surprise, to strike where it hurts most, and to avoid unnecessary battles.  War is a matter of life and death, a road either to safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected. The aim of war is to win without fighting, to subdue the enemy without bloodshed. The best victory is that which requires no battle. However, if war is inevitable, then one must fight with all one’s might, using every means at one’s disposal.  War is a cruel and tragic reality, but sometimes it is a necessary evil.
