Bangladesh's Engagements and Milestones: A Path to Growth and Recognition



Bangladesh, a country on the rise, is making significant strides in various areas, garnering attention and recognition on both domestic and international fronts. In August this year, Bangladesh is expected to achieve a major milestone by becoming a member of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), as confirmed by Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen. This development highlights Bangladesh's growing influence and its potential to contribute to the global stage.


The country's engagement with the G20 under India's presidency is viewed as a prestigious opportunity for Bangladesh, with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen expressing immense pride. Bangladesh sees this as an honor and an avenue to strengthen its ties with influential nations, exchange knowledge and resources, and elevate its position in global affairs.


China has extended its support to Bangladesh and other nations in countering hegemonism and power politics, emphasizing the need for collaboration and opposition to manipulative practices. This partnership signifies the growing cooperation between Bangladesh and China, fostering mutual development and regional stability.


Another significant event was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh and Switzerland for skill enhancement. President of the Swiss Confederation Alain Berest and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were present during the signing ceremony, highlighting the commitment of both nations to promote skill development and economic growth.


On the sports front, Bangladesh engaged in a one-off FIFA international friendly against Cambodia as part of their preparation for the SAFF Championship 2023. Such sporting engagements provide opportunities for Bangladesh to showcase its talent, strengthen sporting ties, and promote goodwill between nations.


While Bangladesh has made commendable progress in disaster management, particularly in flood and cyclone disasters, there is recognition of the need for further improvement. Director General of Disaster Management Directorate, Mizanur Rahman, emphasized the importance of continued efforts in disaster preparedness and response to safeguard lives and minimize the impact of such calamities.


The country has also been actively engaged in bilateral agreements and projects. Denmark and Bangladesh signed an agreement to extend the LoGIC project, focusing on sustainable development initiatives. Additionally, Bangladesh and the World Bank jointly launched a project aimed at improving road safety and reducing road-related fatalities and injuries, emphasizing the government's commitment to enhancing public safety.


Bangladesh's digital finance journey took a significant step forward with the introduction of the CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) program by the Bangladesh Bank. This initiative aims to digitize the national currency, enhance financial inclusion, and facilitate seamless transactions in the digital era.


Furthermore, Bangladesh witnessed Najmul Hossain Shanto's outstanding performance in cricket, as he scored his third Test ton, bringing glory to the nation and further strengthening its presence in the sporting world.


In the energy sector, the government approved the establishment of a third liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Cox's Bazar, showcasing Bangladesh's commitment to ensuring a stable energy supply and promoting economic growth.


Bangladesh's macroeconomic stability has drawn the attention of Japan, with Ambassador IWAMA Kiminori closely monitoring the situation and expressing Japan's support in overcoming the challenges faced by the country.


As Bangladesh aspires to build a smart nation, Salman F. Rahman emphasized the need for serious bureaucratic reforms during the Smart Bangladesh Network program. These reforms are considered crucial in establishing a technologically advanced and efficient nation.


In line with its commitment to sustainable development and green initiatives, Bangladesh has the opportunity to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles. Recommendations have been made to reduce import duties for a fixed period to incentivize the purchase of electric cars and promote a faster rollout of these vehicles.


While progress is being made, the country is not without challenges. Islami Andolan Bangladesh has planned nationwide protests, which may lead to increased security measures, transport disruptions
