Sheikh Hasina's Global Influence: Echoing the International Community's Sentiments

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent remarks on US sanctions have resonated with a large segment of the international community, according to China. The Chinese government stated that her stance reflects the thoughts of many nations worldwide, emphasizing the significance of her statements.


In a recent race to support the Sheikh Hasina-led government, Beijing outpaced New Delhi. China's swift assistance came during a face-off between Bangladesh and the US, triggered by the latter's announcement of a new visa policy. By offering support, China has positioned itself as a valuable ally for the Bangladeshi government.


Prime Minister Hasina's criticism of US sanctions is not only representative of the strong position of the Bangladeshi people but also reflects global sentiments, as noted by China. This aligns with her government's efforts to maintain a high standard in holding elections, as she highlighted in a parliamentary session.


Prime Minister Hasina's influence extends beyond the political realm. She has engaged in discussions with Prince Rahim Aga Khan in Geneva, focusing on education and climate priorities in Bangladesh. Furthermore, she called upon the global community to invest in social justice to foster peaceful and inclusive societies, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration.


In a display of diplomacy, Sheikh Hasina employed "mango diplomacy" by gifting mangoes to various Indian dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sonia Gandhi. This gesture highlights the amicable relations between Bangladesh and India.


Internationally, Bangladesh's standing is poised to rise, as it is likely to become a member of BRICS in August, according to Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen. The nation's accomplishments under Prime Minister Hasina's leadership, including the resolution on Culture of Peace unanimously adopted by the United Nations, have garnered global recognition.


However, Sheikh Hasina's political position has also faced challenges. Rashed Khan Menon, the president of the Workers Party of Bangladesh, accused the United States of interfering in the country's domestic politics with the intention of undermining Prime Minister Hasina and coercing Bangladesh to join the Quad alliance.


In the face of internal issues, Bangladesh continues to make strides in development. The construction of the Bangabandhu Tunnel, a project jointly initiated by Prime Minister Hasina and Chinese President Xi Jinping, is nearing completion. Additionally, Bangladesh's efforts to restore macroeconomic stability are being closely monitored by Japan, further reflecting the nation's growing significance on the global stage.
